Since Footy is a 7v7 soccer league, we thought it would be a good idea to explore common 7v7 soccer formations that a team can use to be successful.
There are many formations you can use in 7v7 soccer because it depends on what is happening in the game. Are you winning, losing or just not playing well as a team? A change in your soccer formation may help. The beauty of formations and soccer tactics in general is that you can change them during the game.
Do you know what your position is?
Before we jump in to strategy, lets look at the different tactical positions on the soccer field which can also be referred to as soccer number positions. The number you are playing refers to what area of the field you are playing and they style as well.
1 – Goalkeeper
2/3 – Outside backs (defenders)
4/5 – Center backs
6 – Defensive midfielder
7/11 – wingers/wide midfielders
8 – Central midfielder
10 – Attacking midfielder
9 – Striker
2-3-1 soccer formation
This formation is pretty popular because of the balance it brings to your soccer formation. With the right movement by the players, you can attack and defend pretty well. It does require the midfielders to be mobile and be willing to help both the defense and the striker.

Balanced formation
Easy to understand
Cons:
Midfields can get tired
Striker is alone
Gaps will open up on defense if players aren’t aware of their positioning.
